photosynthesis | food making process in plants |
leaf | this is the part of the plant that grows out of the stem and is the food making factory of a plant |
cell respiration | process when both plant and animal cell use oxygen to release the energy in food |
roots | underground foundation of a plant; they take in water for the rest of the plant |
tropism | a plant's response to conditions in the environment |
stem | part of a plant that joins the roots and the leaves |
organ system | groups of organs that work together |
organ | tissues that work together and form thes |
vacuole | a cell's storage area for important liquids (similar to the stomach of the cell) |
nutrients | substances needed for an organism to live and grow |
nucleus | controls all the cell's activities and is important in cell reproduction (similar to the brain of the cell) |
cell membrane | a thin layer that surrounds all cells. It allows materials to pass in and out. |
life processes | things that a living thing must do in order to stay alive and reproduce |
cell | basic unit of all living things |
cytoplasm | the jelly-like substance that fills much of the cell |
cell wall | the tough outer covering of a plant cell that gives it a rigid shape |
chloroplast | food making occurs in this cell structure - it is only in plant cells |
tissue | similar cells working together form this. |
