Decomposers | Organisms that break down wastes and dead organisms and return the raw materials to the environment. |
Photosynthesis | The process in which green plants make food. |
Producers | An organism that can make its own food. |
Consumers | An organism that obtains energy by feeding on other organisms. |
Herbivores | Consumers that eat only plants. |
Scavengers | A carnivore that feeds on the bodies of dead organisms. |
Energy pyramid | A diagram showing the amount of energy that moves from one feeding level to another in a food web. |
Food chain | A series of events in which one organism eats another and obtains energy. |
Omnivore | A consumer that eats plants and animals. |
Food web | Consists of many overlapping food chains in an ecosystem. |
Carnivore | Consumers that eat only animals. |
