TermDefinition
Decomposers Organisms that break down wastes and dead organisms and return the raw materials to the environment.
Photosynthesis The process in which green plants make food.
Producers An organism that can make its own food.
Consumers An organism that obtains energy by feeding on other organisms.
Herbivores Consumers that eat only plants.
Scavengers A carnivore that feeds on the bodies of dead organisms.
Energy pyramid A diagram showing the amount of energy that moves from one feeding level to another in a food web.
Food chain A series of events in which one organism eats another and obtains energy.
Omnivore A consumer that eats plants and animals.
Food web Consists of many overlapping food chains in an ecosystem.
Carnivore Consumers that eat only animals.
