Term | Definition |
refraction | The bending of light rays as they move from one material into another. |
prism | A glass bar that separates white light into the colors of the rainbow. |
lens | A curved piece of clear glass or plastic that bends light rays. |
light | A form of energy that travels in waves and can move through empty space where there is no air. |
opaque | Materials that light cannot pass through. |
absorption | The process of soaking up liquid, heat, or light. |
translucent | Materials that allow light to pass through, but it will form a blurry image. |
transparent | A substance that is clear like glass and lets light through so that the objects on the other side can be seen clearly. |
spectrum | The range of colors that is revealed when light shines through a prism or through drops of water, as in a rainbow. |
reflection | The bouncing back of light rays from the surface. |
