Light

TermDefinition
refraction The bending of light rays as they move from one material into another.
prism A glass bar that separates white light into the colors of the rainbow.
lens A curved piece of clear glass or plastic that bends light rays.
light A form of energy that travels in waves and can move through empty space where there is no air.
opaque Materials that light cannot pass through.
absorption The process of soaking up liquid, heat, or light.
translucent Materials that allow light to pass through, but it will form a blurry image.
transparent A substance that is clear like glass and lets light through so that the objects on the other side can be seen clearly.
spectrum The range of colors that is revealed when light shines through a prism or through drops of water, as in a rainbow.
reflection The bouncing back of light rays from the surface.
