| Term | Definition |
| electric charge | a property that leads to electromagnetic interactions between particles that make up matter |
| static electricity | the buildup of electric charge in an object |
| electrical conductor | a material through which charges move freely |
| electrical insulator | a material through which charge cannot move freely |
| semiconductor | a special class of materials that conduct elctric charge better than insulators but not as well as conductors |
| electric current | the rate of flow of electric charges |
| resistance | the opposition to the flow of electric charge |
| voltage | the amount of work required to move each unit of charge between two points |
| electric circuit | a complete, closed path through which electrical currents flow |
| series curcuit | a circuit in which all parts are connected in a row that forms one path for the electric charges to flow |
| parallel curcuit | a circuit in which electrical charges have more than one path they can follow |
| magnet | any material that attracts iron or objects made out of iron |
| magnetic force | the push or pull that magnets exert on eachother |
| magnetic pole | an end on a magnet |
| magnetic field | the area around the magnet where magnetic forces can be detected |
| electromagnetism | when electric fields and magnetic fields interact with eachother |
| electromagnet | a solenoid wrapped around an iron core |
