Aspirin: Therapeutic Usage | Mild-moderate pain, especially pain resulting from inflammation. |
Aspirin: Contraindications | Peptic ulcer disease, bleeding disorders, gout, renal or liver impairment, Reye syndrome, pregnancy, lactating women, smoking, alcohol, elderly patients, and patients with respiratory function issues. |
Aspirin: Adverse Effects | Salicylism (mild aspirin toxicity) occurs with long-term usage or continuous high dosage. Salicylate poisoning (life-threatening) Lethal dosage for children: 5-8 grams. Adults: 10-30 grams. There is no antidote. GI issues may occur as well. |
Aspirin: Drug Interactions | anticoagulants, oral hypoglycemics, insulin, methotrexate, and alcohol may be enhanced. Ibuprofen may hinder effects. May also cause false numbers on glucose tests. |
