Term | Definition |
Access Copyright | Is a non-profit organization that ensures fair compensation to those of whom works are copied from. |
Copyright | Is the ownership of intellectual property which includes the right to reproduce the material. |
Intellectual Property | The ownership of creations of the mind for which exclusive rights are recognized. e.g copyright, trademarks, patents. |
Royalties | Payments made by a licensee to a licensor for the use of an asset or intellectual property. |
Trade-Marks | A recognizable sign, design or expression which identifies products or services of a particular source from those of others. |
Public Domain | Works that belong to the public that can be used free of charge and do not require written permission from the author/creator. |
Moral Rights | The right of the creator of a work to preserve the integrity of that work to be free from alteration, distortion, or mutilation even if that work is given to be used by another. |
Performing Rights | The right to perform music in public. Copyright law demands that payment be made to the composer and publisher unless those rights are obtained from the copyright holder. |
Plagiarism | Is this use of another's language, thoughts, ideas and expressions and representing them as your own. |
Fair Dealing | Is the limitation and exception to the exclusive right granted by copyright law i.e Using another's work for a different purpose. |
Patent | Is a form of intellectual property that grants exclusive rights to an inventor for a limited period of time. |
Blanket License | Allows TV, Radio, or other forms of distributors to play material without having to acquire the rights every time that material is presented. |
