Nasal Passages   Function to filter,warm and moisten air before it goes to the fragile lungs.

Pharynx   The area at the back of the throat that both air and food travels through. The epiglottis in this area stop food from passing into the lungs.

Trachea   Is also known as the windpipe. Has structural cartilage rings that hold this tube open. Is the passage way for air entering the lungs - extends from the larynx to the bronchi.

Larynx   is the voice box. As air passes through this area below the pharynx sound is generated by vibrating blades.

Trachea   is the windpipe which leads down the throat into the lungs. Structurally, has cartilage rings that keep this airway open.

Alveoli   microscopic airsacs at the end of the bronchioles. Clusters of these airsacs allow gas exchange over a large surface area and help make the lungs efficient.

Diaphragm   This large muscle is at the base of the lungs. When the diaphragm contracts it shortens, making the lungs expand.
