acid   A chemical substance which releases hydrogen ions (H+) and has a pH of less than 7.0.

chemical reaction   A process that occurs when chemical substances are changed into new substances.

compound   A substance made of more than one type of atom, chemically combined in a fixed ratio.

concentrated   A solution that has a large number of particles dissolved in it.

corrosive   A substance that will damage the surface of another substance.

density   The amount of mass (weight) an object has, in relation to its volume (the space it takes up).

dilute   A solution that contains a small number of particles dissolved in it.

indicator   A substance which will change colour according to the pH.
