What is the function of the nervous system? | The nervous system consists of the brain, spinal cord, sensory organs, and all of the nerves that connect these organs with the rest of the body. Together, these organs are responsible for the control of the body and communication among its parts.

What are the parts of the neuron? | Dendrites, Nucleus, Soma (Cell Body), Myelin Sheats, Axon, Axon Terminals
🗑

SCHWANN CELLS | They form the myelin sheath

What does the myelin sheath do? | Myelin is an insulating layer, or sheath that forms around nerves, including those in the brain and spinal cord. It is made up of protein and fatty substances. This myelin sheath allows electrical impulses to transmit quickly and efficiently along the ner

What are the differences between myelinated and unmyelinated neurons? | Nerve impulses travel along the axons faster when there is a myelinated neuron present.

How does the sodium potassium pump help to maintain resting potential? | The leak channels allow Na+ and K+ to move across the cell membrane down their gradients (from a high concentration toward a lower concentration). With the combined ion pumping and leakage of ions, the cell can maintain a stable resting membrane potential

What are the six steps of the sodium/potassium pumps action? | 1. The presynaptic membrane depolarizes, causing Ca2+ to diffuse into the cell
2. Ca2+ causes vesicles with the neurotransmitter to perform exocytosis into the synaptic cleft
3. The neurotransmitter binds to receptors on the postsynaptic membrane to ope

Review the information in the table. When you are ready to quiz yourself you can hide individual columns or the entire table. Then you can click on the empty cells to reveal the answer. Try to recall what will be displayed before clicking the empty cell.
To hide a column, click on the column name.
To hide the entire table, click on the "Hide All" button.
You may also shuffle the rows of the table by clicking on the "Shuffle" button.
Or sort by any of the columns using the down arrow next to any column heading.
If you know all the data on any row, you can temporarily remove it by tapping the trash can to the right of the row.
