🗑
What does petrified mean?   Minerals seep into the small holes in wood and harden: example is petrified forest
🗑
What are the steps for a plant or animal to become a fossil?   1. The plant or animal dies. 2. It is covered in dirt, soil or sediments. 3. The soft parts decay. The hard parts remain. 4.Minerals seep into the tiny holes causing it to harden.

Fossil Fuel Facts:   Fossils fuels are coal, natural gas and oil. We may run out of them in the future because they are non-renewable ( limited supply).
🗑
Fossils are usually found in   Sedimentary rock.
🗑
Dinosaurs lived approximately   65 million years ago.
🗑
Fossils will not help us   learn about an animal`s color.
🗑
Not all animals/plants become fossils.   They are actually quite rare. Plants/animals have the best chance of becoming a fossil if they are buried deeply in the ground.
🗑
Small bugs and insects are most likely   to be trapped in amber.
🗑
Only the hard parts of plants and animals   become fossils because the soft parts decay.
🗑
We only know about dinosaurs   because of their fossils. No one was alive with the dinosaurs.
🗑
Students should be able   to describe the difference between a mold and a cast fossil.
