Quiz yourself by thinking what should be in each of the black spaces below before clicking on it to display the answer.

Term
Definition
Protons   a subatomic particle that has a positive charge and that is located in the nucleus of an atom; the number of protons in the nucleus is the atomic number, which determines the identity of an element.
🗑
Element   substance that cannot be broken down into simpler substances by chemical means. An element is composed of atoms that have the same atomic number, that is, each atom has the same number of protons in its nucleus as all other atoms of that element.
🗑
Chemical property   is any of a material's properties that becomes evident during, or after, a chemical reaction; that is, any quality that can be established only by changing a substance's chemical identity.
🗑
Reactivity   is the tendency of a substance to undergo chemical reaction, either by itself or with other materials, and to release energy.
🗑
Valence electrons   re the electrons in the outer shell of an atom. The valence electrons are the ones involved in forming bonds to adjacent atoms.
🗑
Reactive   a substance that changes when it is mixed with another substance
🗑
Chemical reactivity   the tendency of a substance to undergo chemical reaction, either by itself or with other materials, and to release energy
🗑
Atom   the smallest unit of an element that maintains the properties of that element.
🗑
Element   cannot be broken down into more fundamental substances
🗑
Nucleus   in physical science, an atom's central region, which is made up of protons and neutrons.
🗑
Property   things that distinguish the difference between matters eg: solids - Cannot be compressed, does not take the shape of container etc.
🗑
React   is used to describe what happens when two substances combine and cause a chemical change in each other.

Review the information in the table. When you are ready to quiz yourself you can hide individual columns or the entire table. Then you can click on the empty cells to reveal the answer. Try to recall what will be displayed before clicking the empty cell.

To hide a column, click on the column name.

To hide the entire table, click on the "Hide All" button.

You may also shuffle the rows of the table by clicking on the "Shuffle" button.

Or sort by any of the columns using the down arrow next to any column heading.
