Dandruff   A diffuse scaling of the scalp, often occompanied by itching.

Eccrine Glands   Glands that produce sweat, found on almost all areas of the body.

Fissures   Deep grooves that occur as a result of dryness or cracking of the skin.

Gingival   Of or relating to the gums.

Gingivitis   Red, swollen, gingivae (gums).

Hirsutism   The growth of excess body hair, especially in women.

Hygiene   The science of health and its maintenance.  
🗑
Ingrown toenail   The growing inward of a nail into the soft tissues around it; Most often results from improper nail trimming.

Lanugo   The fine, woolly hair or "down" on the shoulders, back, sacrum, and/or earlobes of the unborn child that may remain for a few weeksafter birth.

Pediculosis   Infestation with head lice.

Periodontal Disease   Disorder of supporting structures of the teeth.

Plantar Wart   A wart at the sole of the foot.

Plaque   An invisible soft film consisting of bacteria, molecules of saliva, and remnants of epithelial cells and leukocytes that adheres to the enamel surface of the teeth.

Pyorrhea   Advanced periodontal disease in which teeth are loose and pus is evident when the gums are pressed.

Scabies   A contagious skin infestation by the itch mite that produces intense itching, especially at night.  
🗑
Sebum   The oily, lubricating secretion of the sebaceous glands in the skin.  
🗑
Sudorigerous Glands   Glands of the dermis that secrete sweat; Also known as "sweat glands."  
🗑
Tartar   A visible, hard deposit of plaque and dead bacteria that forms at the gum lines.  
🗑
Therapeutic Baths   A bath given for physical effects, such as to sooth irritated skin or to promote healing of an area. Two common types are the sitz bath and the medicated bath.

Ticks   Small, gray-brown parasites that bite into the tissue and suck blood and transmit several diseases to people, such as Rocky Mountain Fever, Lyme disease, and tularemia.

Tinea Pedis   Athlete's foot (ring-worm of the foot), caused by a fungus.  
🗑
Xerostomia   Dry mouth as a result of a reduced supply of saliva.
