Chain of Infection | Factors that must be present for an infection to occur. It has 6 factors: infectious agent, reservoir, portal of exit, mode of transmission, portal of entry, and susceptible host.

Reserviors | Humans, insects, food, and water that provide food for microorganisms and allow them to multiply.

Portals of Exit | Escape routes in humans that allow microorganisms to leave

Portal of Entry | Means for pathogens to get into the host or environment.

Susceptible Host | Something that is capable of becoming or has been infected.

Surgical Aspesis | Sterilization of any item that penetrates the skin or comes in contact with a normally sterile part of the body.

Infectious Agent | A pathogen that can cause sickness.

Medical Aspesis | To reduce the number of pathogens or microorganisms.

Contagious | Can spread to other people.

Fomites | Nonliving material that house microorganisms.

Immunity | A state of not being susceptible to pathogens.

Healthcare-associated Infections (HSIs) | a patient can get infections unrelated to their illness.
