QuestionAnswer
organic only when molecules contain carbon and hydrogen
carbohydrates is one of the macromolecules that gives quick energy like sugar
lipids is one of the macromolecules that contain large amounts of energy with fatty acids and glycerol
proteins is one of the macromolecules that has a monomer of amino acids and transport material like oxygen
monomer is one molecule from the whole polymer
condensation means to remove water or known as the dehydration synthesis
dehydration means to lose water
hydrolysis means to split a polymer by adding water
sexual reproduction a reproduction with two other organisms
Asexual reproduction means to make an exact copy of itself
amino acids is a monomer and can be formed as a polymer to make a whole molecule ex: protein
polar means a molecule that has a positive charge on one side and a negative on the other
hydrogen bond is one whole molecule and one other attract each other with polar attraction
diffusion movement of small particle from high concentration to low concentration with no energy
osmosis diffusion of water through semi-permeable membrane from high concentration to low with no energy
Unicellular these organisms exist as a single cells (ex. amoebas and bacteria)
Eukaryota are cells that contain a nucleus
prokaryotic cells that do not have a nucleus
Autotrophs are like plants, means the organism can make its own food
Heterotroph is an organism that must find and eat other organisms in order to obtain food
Diffusion Is the movement of very small particles from an area of higher water concentration, with the concentration gradient
Osmosis is the diffusion of water through a semi-permeable membrane from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower water concentration
Hypotonic is when their is more salt inside the cell rather than the outside of the cell
Hypertonic Their is a higher concentration of salt outside the cell than the inside

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.

To see how well you know the information, try the Quiz or Test activity.
