Base of Support The foundation that provides for an object's stability
Body Mechanics The efficient use of the body as a machine and as a mean of locomotion
Calorie A unit for measuring heat often used to calculate the amount of energy contained in a food
Carbohydrates A nutrient composed of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen (starches and sugars)
Center of Gravity An object is the point at which the mass is centered
Culture The beliefs and practices that are passed down from generation to generation
Developmental Tasks A competency skill in which a person must accomplish at a particular time in life
Ergonomics The science concerned with fitting a job to a person's characteristics
Ethnic Relating to races or to large groups of people with common traits and customs
Fiber Indigestible carbohydrates found in plant foods and connective tissues of meat
Geriatrics The branch of medicine pertaining to elderly people
Gerontology Study of the problem of the aging in all aspects
Line of Gravity The vertical line that passes through the center of gravity
Metabolism The sum total of all the physical and chemical changes that takes place in an organism
Mineral An inorganic element or compound occurring in nature
Nutrients Food that supplies the body with its necessary elements
Nutrition What a person eats and how the body uses it
Posture The relationship of the various parts of the body to one another when standing, sitting or lying
Protein An organic substance that is composed of carbon, hydrogen, oxygen and nitrogen
Reality Orientation Technique to prevent confusion or disorientation
Senility Pertaining to the physical and/or mental deterioration associated with aging
Vitamin Any of the group of organic substances other than protein, fats, minerals and carbohydrates which are essential for metabolism, growth and development of body
