This is my unit 1 Earth Science Unit 1

| Atmosphere | Layer of gases that surrounds a planet |
| Hypothesis | An assumption that is made as a result of gathering data through sampling. |
| Asteriod | Any of the thousands of small bodies from 480 miles (775 km) to less than one mile(1.6 km) in diameter that orbit the sun. |
| Tectonics | The large-scale processes involving movement of the plates of the earths lithosphere |
| Retrograde | Temporary reversal of apparent motion of an orbiting object. |
| Biosphere | The zone of life on the earth that includes all living things. |
| Heat | Transfer of thermal energy from one place to another. |
| Heliocentric | With the sun as the center |
| Hydrosphere | The liquid layer of the earth made up of the earth's waters; hydrosphere covers about 3/4s of the earths surface. |
| Tsunami | A seismic sea wave, caused by disturbance of the seafloor such as an earthquake. |
| Energy | the capacity to do work or cause change |
| Density | A measure of how closely packed the particles in a substance are; the mass of an object divided by its volume. |
| Cryosphere | All frozen water on land and sea. |
| Posigrade Motion | orbital motion in the same direction as is normal to bodies in a given system |
| Geosphere | The solid earth; that is, all rock on earth. |
| Geocentric | With Earth as the center |
| Transpiration | The process of which a plant loses water to the atmosphere by way of evaporation of the water from the plant through the surface of the leaves. |
