How is astonomy useful? It studies the universe by probing the origins of our own environment.
What does the atmorsphere do? It gives life by surrounding Earth with a gaseous envelope.
What does the biosphere include? It includes all life near the surface of Earth.
What is a closed system? It is a system that allows energy to move freely in and out of it, but the matter is self- contained.
What is one of the three principle regions within Solid Earth? The ocre which is a dense inner sphere within the Earth.
What is the outer layer of Earth? It is the crust which is very thin and light.
Does the topic Earth Science change? Yes because our planet changes constantly.
What does Earth System Science focus on? It focuses on the small subsystems of Earth, instead one broad category.
What does environment refer to? It refers to everything that surrounds and influences an organism.
What two ares is geology divided into? Physical and historical geology
What is the cycle of the hydrosphere? It is constantly moving when it evaporates from the ocean to the atmosphere, then it percipitates onto the land, and then it runs back into the ocean again.
What is a hypothesis? It is a untested explanation.
What does the lithosphere contain? It contains the crust and the upper most mantle.
Where is the mantle located? It is located in the Solid Earth portion inbetween the core and the crust.
What is meteorolgy the study of? It is the study of the atmosphere and the process that produces weather and climate.
What is a model compared to? A model is compared to a hypothesis and a scientifc theory.
What does the nebular hypothesis state? It states that the bodies of our solar systme came from a rotating cloud composed mostly of hydrogen and helium with some other heavy elements.
What do negative feedback mechanisms do? They maintain our bodies to keep them as they are.
How long do nonrenewable resources take to form? Usaually millions of years for a significant amount.
What does the study of oceanography include? It inclide the study of the composition and movements of seawater, along with marine life and coastal processes.
What are open systems? They are most natural systems and they allow energy and matter to flow in and out of them.
What do paradigms explain? They explain broad aspects of life theat are related to eachother.
What does the category physical environment contain? It contains water, air, soil, and rock,and other conditions like humidity, sunlight, and temperature.
What are positive feedback mechanisms? They are mechanisms that drive change in your body.
What are some renewable resources? Some of those resources are plants, animals, clothing fibers, and energy from flowing water, wind, and sunlight.
What is a system? A system is any sizegroup of interacting parts that form a complex whole.
What is a theory? It is a well tested hypothesis that is widely accepted.
