Scientific Methods

Vocabulary

QuestionsAnswer
What is a hypothesis? An "I think" statement of an educated guess.
What is a conclusion? The end result, whether it's right or wrong.
What is data? Numbers, values, and observations.
What is analysis? The examining and summarizing of data.
What is control? What is held constant in the experiment.
What is the independent variable? The variable that is only changed by the person doing the experiment.
What is the dependent variable? The variable that changes depending on the independent variable.
What is an observation? Any information collected with the five senses.
What is an inference? A conclusion or deduction based on observations.
What is the definition of quantitive? Measurable or countable (numbers).
What is the definition of qualitative? Describable, not measurable (shape, size,color, etc.).
