QuestionAnswer
Characteristics of Living Things -made of cells -reproduce -based on a universal genetic code based on DNA -grow and develop -obtain and use materials and energy -respond to their environment (adapt or evolve) -can maintain a stable internal environment (homeostasis) -evolve
What form of energy do living things prefer? ATP
Cell Theory -All lving things are made of one or more cells -The cell is the basic unit of organization of all living things -All cells come from pre-existing cells.
Two types of cells? Eukaryotic and Prokaryotic
What is the difference between the two types of cells? The eukaryotic cell has a nucleus while the prokaryotic does not.
Mitochondria creates energy
Cytoplasm fills the cell
Cell membrane encloses the cell
Cell wall gives the cell structure
Nucleus stores the cell's DNA
Nuclear membrane surrounds the nucleus
Cilia short hair like things on the out side of the cell
Figela the "tail" of the cell; helps it to move
Chlaroplasts gives plant cells their green pigment
Lysosomes gets rid of the cell's waste
Vacuoles stores the cell's materials such as water
Ribosomes creates protien
ER network
Two types of transport Passive and active
Passive uses... no energy
Active uses... energy
The phases of Mitosis Interphase, Prophase, Metophase, Anaphase, Telephase, Cytoconisis
Interphase 2N=8 Diploid-->Synthesis Copy 4N=16-->two daughter cells
Cells form______ which forms_____ Cells-->Tissues-->Organs-->Organ systems-->organisms
