Biology The study of life that helps you understand the natural world.
Organism Possess all characteristics of life; all organisms have an orderly structure.
Organization orderly structure of cells in an organism.
Reproduction production of offspring by an organism.
Species group of organisms that can interbreed & produce fertile offspring in nature.
Growth increase in the amount of living material & formation of new structures in an organism.
Development all the changes that take place during the life of an organism.
Environment Biotic & abiotic surroundings to which an organism must constantly adjust.
Stimulus Anything in an organisms internal or external environment that causes it to react.
Response organism reaction to a change in its internal or external environment.
Homeostasis organisms regulation of its internal environment to maintain conditions suitable for survival.
Energy Ability to cause change; used to perform biological functions.
Adaptation Evolution of a structure, behavior, or internal process that enables organism to respond to environmental factors & produce offspring.
Evolution Gradual change in a species through adaptations over time.
Control The standard against which results are compared.
Scientific Method Procedures used to gather info & answer questions.
Hypothesis Explanation for a question or a problem that can be formally tested.
Experiment Procedure that tests a hypothesis by collecting info under controlled conditions.
Independent variable condition that is tested because it affects the outcome of the experiment.
dependent variable The condition that results from changes in the independent variable.
