The atmosphere is... ...a thin, tenuous blanket of air. One half lies below 5.6 kilometers, or 3.5 miles
The biosphere includes... all life. It is concentrated near the surface in a zone that extends from the ocean floor upward for several kilometers into the atmosphere. Influences other three spheres.
What is a closed system? A closed system is a self-contained group of interacting parts that form a complex whole.
What is the core? The core is the center of Earth that located in the Solid Earth "sphere".
Define crust. The rigid outer layer of the Earth; part of the lithosphere.
What is Earth Science? The science that encompassess all sciences that seek to understand Earth and her neighbors in space.
Earth System Science is... The science that states Earth is a dynamic body with many separate but highly interacting parts or spheres. Earth System Science studies Earth as a system composed of numerous parts, or subsystems.
What is environment? Environment surrounds and influences organisms. It encompassess the physical features of Earth, such as water, air, soil, and rock.
What is geology? Geology is literally the study of Earth.
The hydrosphere contains... ...the ocean, the most prominent feature of the hydrosphere. Nearly 71% of Earth's surface, and about 97% of Earth's water; also includes fresh water.
A hypothesis... ...is a tentative or untested explanation.
What is the lithosphere? The lithosphere is the Earth's ridid outer layer.
What is the mantle? The mantle contains of molten lava in the Earth's lithosphere.
What is meteorology? Meteorology is the study of the atmosphere and the processes that produce weather.
What is a model? A three-dimensional representation of a person or thing or of a proposed structure, typically on a smaller scale than the original.
What is the nebular hypothesis? The nebular hypothesis theorizes that the solar system evolved from an enormous rotating clould called the solar nebula.
The negative feedback mechanism is... ...a feedback mechanism that resists change and stabalizes the system.
A nonrenewable resource is... ...a natural resource that has a fixed quantity.
Oceanography is... ...not a seperate or distinct science. It merely integrates chemistry, physics, geology, and biology.
What is an open system? An open system is a system that allows both energy and matter to flow into and out of the system.
What is a paradigm? A paradigm is a theory that explains a large number of interrelated aspects of the natural world.
The physical enviorment contains... ...water, air, soil, and rock.
A positive feedback mechanism is... ...a feedback mechanism that enhances a system.
What is a renewable resource? A renewable resource is a resource that can be replenished.
A system is... ...any group of interacting parts that form a complex whole.
