What is astronomy? Astronomy is the study of the universe.
Earth is surrounded by a life giving gaseous envelope called what? The atmosphere.
What includes all life on Earth? The Biosphere
What is the core? A dense inner sphere on the earth. It is also one of the three principle regions.
What is a Closed System? A system that is self-contained with regard to matter where energy moves freely in and out, but no matter enters or leaves.
What is the light and very thin outer layer of the earth? the Crust.
Earth Science is. The name for all the sciences that collectively seek to understand Earth and its neighbors in space.
What is Earth System Science? Studies Earth as a system composed of numerous interacting parts or subsystems.
Everything that surrounds and influences an organism is called what? The Environment.
What is geology? Geology literally means study of the earth.
What is the hydrosphere? It is a dynamic mass of liquid that is continually on the move; evaporating from the ocean to the atmosphere precipitating to the land and running back to the ocean again.
What is the lithosphere? The rigid outer layer that includes the crust and upper most mantle.
What is the mantle? Less dense than the core.
Meteorology is the study of the earths atmosphere and the process that produce weather and climate.
What is model? Model is often used synonymously with hypothesis, is a less precise term because it is sometimes used used to describe scientific theory.
Suggest that the bodies of our solar system evolved from an enormous rotating cloud called solar nebula. What is nebula Hypothesis.
What is a negative feedback mechanism? maintains the system as it is.
What is a hypothesis? A tentative explanation of how or why things happen.
Resources that can not be replenished over a short time span is a... Nonrenewable resource.
Oceanography is... It involves the application of all sciences in comprehensive and interrelated study of the oceans in all their aspects and relationships.
What is an open system? Both energy and matter flow in and out of a system.
Theories that are extensively documented are held with a very high degree of confidence and they explain a large number of interrelated aspects of the natural world are called what? Paradigms.
What is the physical environment? the external surroundings and conditions in which something exists.
What is a positive feedback mechanism? Works to enhance or drives to change a system.
What is a Renewable resource? a resource that can be replenished over a relatively short time span.
Any sized group of interacting parts that from a complex whole is what? A system.
A well tested and widely accepted view that the scientific community agrees best explains certain observable facts is what? A theory.
