What is atronomy? Astronomy is the study of the universe.
What is the life-giving gaseous envolope that surrounds the Earth? the atmosphere
Whatn is the biosphere? The biosphere includes all life on Earth.
What is a closed system? A closed system is a self-contained system with regard to matter.
What is the dense inner sphere of the Earth called? the core
What is the crust? The crust is the light and very thin outer skin of Earth.
What is Earth science? Earth science is the name for all the sciences that collectively seek to understand Earth and its neighbors in space.
What is Earth system science? Earth system science aims to study Earth as a system composed of numerous interacting parts, or subsystems.
What is the environment? The environment is everything that surrounds and influences an organism.
What is geology? Geology literally means "study of Earth".
What is the hydrosphere? The hydrosphere is a dynamic mass of liquid that is continually on the move, evaporating from the oceans to the atmosphere, precipitating to the land, and running back to the ocean again.
What is a hypothesis? A hypothesis is a tenative or untested explanation.
What is the lithosphere? The lithosphere is the rigid outer layer that includes the crust and upper-most mantle.
What is the mantle? The mantle is the laqyer between the crust and the core.
What is meteorology? Meteorology is the study of the atmosphere and the processes that produce weather and climate.
What is a model? A model is synonymous with a hypothesis and also is somtimes used to describe a scientific theory as well.
What is the nebulat hypothesis? The nebular hypothesis suggests that the bodies of our solar system evolved from an enormous rotating cloud called the solar nebula, composed mostly of hydogen and helium, with a small percentage of the heavier elements.
What is a negative feedback mechanism? A negative feedback mechanism works to maintain a system as it is, or in other words to maintain the status quo.
What is a non-renewable resource? A non-renewable resource is a resource that isn't replaced or not replenished in a short time span.
What is oceanography? Oceanography ivolves the application of all sciences in a comprehensive ans integrated study or the oceans in all its aspectsand relationships.
What is an open system? An open system is a system in which both energy and matter flow into and out of the system.
What is a paradigm? A paradigm explains a large number of interrelated aspcets of the natural world.
What is a physical environment? A physical environment is all the non-living influences of an organism.
What is a positive feedback mechanism? A positive feedback mechanism enhances or drives change into a system.
What is a remewable resource? A renewable resource is a resource that is replenished over a relatively short time-span.
What is a system? A system can be any size group or interacting parts that form a complex whole.
What is a theory? A theory is a hypothesis that has survived extensive scrutiny and when competing models have been eliminated.
