Abdomen Examination

QuestionAnswer
How can you enhance your abdominal examination? To wash your hands before greeting and warm up hands and stethoscope.
What are the four steps for the abdomen exam? 1)inspection 2) auscilation 3) percussion 4) palpation
what to look for during inspection? shape and size of the abdomen. Is the patient comfortable? Does the abdomen move with each breath? Describe the shape of the abdomen.
Position for patient during abdomen examination? Supine position.
What two things must you do before the exam begins? Wash your hands and warm your stethoscope.
What landmarks are used to construct the midline? Chin to symphysis pubis.
After greeting the patient, what is the first question to ask before the exam? Show me where the pain is and why? To avoid guarding by the patient.
