logistic growth when growth of a population slows after exponential growth
carrying capacity when population levels off, the largest number of individuals an environment can support
limiting factor a factor that causes population growth to decrease
density-dependent limiting factor a factor that causes the number of individuals to be limited only when there are some certain number of individuals per area (density)(such as food supply)
predator-prey relationship the relationship between prey and predator and it often controls the population
density-independent limiting factors factors that affect the populatio no matter what it's density (such as unusual weather)
demography scientific study of human populations
demographic transition dramatic slowing of growth (such as the USA)
age-structure diagrams population profiles showing the percentage of people (male and female) in each age group
