QuestionAnswer
TOPOGRAPHY The shape of the land surface.
`ELEVATION The height above sea level on the land's surface.
RELIEF The difference in elevation between the highest and lowest points of an area.
LANDFORM A feature of the topography formed by the processes that shape Earth's surfaces.
LANDFORM REGION A large area of land where the topography is similar. ex.) the badlands in Dakota
MOUNTAIN A landform with high elevation and high relief.
MOUNTAIN RANGE A group of mountains that are closely related in shape, structure, or age.
Plateau A landform that has high elevation and a more or less level surface.
LITHOSPHERE Earth's solid, rocky outer layer.
HYDROSPHERE Earth's oceans, lakes, rivers, and ice.
ATMOSPHERE The mixture of gases that surround the planet
BIOSPHERE All living things in air, ocean, or beneath the land and on the land.
MAP A model on a flat surface of all or part of the Earth's surface as viewed from above.
GLOBE A sphere that represents Earth's entire surface.
SCALE A ration between a distance on a map and a distance on the surface of the Earth's surface.
SYMBOLS A picture representation of a feature on the Earth's surface.
KEY A list of all the symbols on a map and an explanation of their meaning.
EQUATOR A latitude line that divides the Earth into the northern and southern hemisphere (Drawn East to west)
HEMISPHERE 1/2 of the sphere that makes up the surface of the Earth.
PRIME MERIDIAN The longitude 0 degree line that connects pole to pole yet it measures east to west.
DEGREE 1/360 of a circle.
LATITUDE line drawn north to south that measures eat to west of the prime meridian.
MAP PROJECTION A framework of lines that help show landmasses on a flat surface.
