define homeostasis the body's ability to maintain a stable internal environment in response to a changing environment.
Superior location part that is closer to the head
inferior location part that is closer to the feet
anterior location toward the front surface (belly area) also called ventral
posterior location toward the back of the body surface
medial location toward the midline of the body
lateral location away from the midline of the body
proximal location point on body nearer the point of attachment
distal location point on body farther away from the point of attachment
superficial location body part located on or near the surface
peripheral location body part that is away from the center
sagittal plane division of the body lengthwise into right and left portions
frontal plane divides the body into anterior (ventral) and posterior (dorsal) portions
transverse plane divides the body horizontally creating and upper (superior) and lower (inferior) body parts.

abdominal cavity stomach, intestine, liver, gallbladder, pancreas, spleen and kidneys.
pelvic cavity part of intestines, rectum, urinary bladder, and reproductive system
abdominopelvic cavity located below the diaphragm. includes abdominal cavity and the pelvic cavity
quadrants of abdominal cavity LUQ, LLQ, RUQ, and RLQ
9 regions of the abdominopelvic cavity R hypochondriac, R lumbar, R iliac, Epigastric, umblical hypogastric, L hypochondriac, L lumbar, L iliac
hypochondriac means below (hypo) the cartilage (chondro) and refers to the composition of the ribs (cartilage)
dorsal cavity two parts the cranial and the spinal (vertebral) cavity
coronal plane frontal plane
anatomical position body is standing erect, with the face forward, the arms at the sides, and the toes and palms of the hands directed forward.
