Earth System FINAL

QuestionAnswer
Crust hard solid, outer surface of the earth. this is where all of the plants, animals , water and other resources are located on the earth.
Mantle The plastic like semi solid that is the second majorlayer of the earth. this is the largest layer of the earth. can be broken down into 3 sub-sections due to the differences in characteristics.
Lithosphere The combination o the slabs of earth that are called the "crust" and very upper portion of the mantle.
Asthenosphere the layer of the upper mantle where convection currents occur.
Outer Core the liquid portion of the earth's interior. this layer does not allow s-waves to travel through it because of its liquid nature. made of liquid iron and nickel.
Inner Core this is the solid inner most layer of the earth. this is what gives the earth its magnetic field, made of solid iron and nickel.
S-wave shadow zone the area of the earth where no s-waves are recorded at seismic recording stations.
S-waves aree .. not able to travel through the liquid outer core to stop at the bountr
