A long ridge of sand or narrow island that lies parallel to the shore. Barrier Island
All organisms that swim actively in open water, independent of currents. Nekton
The mass of mostly microscopic organisms that float or freely drift in the waters of aquatic environments. Plankton
The bottom region of oceans and bodies of frshwater. Benthic Zone
An area where freshwater from rivers mixes with salt water from oceans. Estuary
Atropical or subtropical marine swamp characterized by the abundance of low to tall trees, especially mangrove trees. Mangrove Swamp
A limestone ridge found in tropical climates and compsed of corral fragments that are deposited around organic remains. Coral Reef
