Assessing the Motor-Musculoskeletal System

Two ways the musculoskeletal system is interrelated to the respiratory system The muscles of the chest protect the lungs and assist with breathing. Accessory muscles are involved in aerobic activities, or when a patient is having difficulty breathing
Where does the bone grow? Diabeter increases in long bones around the shaft. Lengthening of the bone occurs at the epiphyses at the ends of the bone.
When should an infant be able to raise their head? 3-4 months
What test is used to assess for carpel tunnel syndrome? Tinel's test, and Phalen's test
What test is used to assess for hip flexure contracture? Thomas' test
What test is used to assess for a herniated disc? The straight leg raise
What tests are best for assessing patellar fluid (as seen with DJD)? The bulge test, and Patellar ballottement
When assessing ROM of the hip, what joint term movements would you assess for? Flexion, extension, abduction, adduction, internal rotation, and external rotation
What test is used to assess for a torn meniscus? Apley's test and McMurray's test
What test is used for anterior, posterior, medial, and lateral knee stability? Lachman's test
What test is used to assess for stability of the knee ligaments? The drawer sign
What test is used to assess for dislocated hip and gluteus medius muscle strength? Trendelenburg's test

When assessing ROM of the feet, what joint term movements would you assess for? Dorisiflexion, plantarflexion, inversion, and eversion
