Photosynthesis and Respiration

Autotroph an organism that can create its own food Ex. plants
Heterotroph an organism that relies on other organisms to make their food Ex. humans and animals
Chlorophyll a green pigment in the chloroplasts
Stomata an opening on the underside of the leaf that lets out oxygen and takes in carbon dioxide
Photosynthesis uses sun
Photosynthesis Stage 1 the plant captures the sun energy by absorbing the energy into the chlorophyll
Photosynthesis Stage 2 the cell uses the energy to create oxygen and energy
Photosynthesis Equation 6 CO2 + 6 H2O uses yield C6H12O6 + 6 O2
Respiration cells break down the carbohydrates and release the energy inside of them
Respiration Stage 1 in the cytoplasm, molecules of glucose break down into smaller molecules
Respiration Stage 2 in the mitochondria, the smaller molecules use oxygen to further break down and release energy
Respiration Equation C6H12O6 + 6 O2 uses yield 6 CO2 + 6 H2O
Fermentation when the body can't supply the cells oxygen anymore, fermentation supplies the cells with energy without using oxygen
