Evolution- Unit 7.1

Evolution-Natural Selection

QuestionAnswer
What is evolution? The gradual changes in a species over time
Who was Charles Darwin? An English naturalist also called, "The Father of Evolution". He said that all species had a common ancestor, and created a scientific theory of evolution that resulted from natural selection.
What's natural selection? A process in nature in which organisms posess certain traits that came to their advantage in survival. It made them more adjusted to their enviroment. When they reproduce, the increase the frequency of this trait.
What kinds of natural selection are there? Overproduction, adaptation, selection, and genetic variation.
How does overproduction work? An organism has several offspring, and more than likely few will survive. The ones that do survive, however, will hopefully live to reproduce offspring with these same traits.
How does selection work? When advantgeous traits become more and more common.
How does adaptation work? An alteration in a species so they can have a better chance of survival in their enviroment.
