QuestionAnswer
In multicellular ordanisms, what is the celldivision used for? used for growth, development, and repair of the organism.
what is cell division controlled by? dna
how does bacteria reproduce? by a simple process called binary fission.
what are somatic cells? general body cells.
what are gametes? sex cells.
what do gametes consisit of? consisting of eggs in females and sperm in males
what is mitosis? specifically the process of division of the chromosomes
what is cytokenisis? officially the process of division of the cytoplasm to form two cells
what do centriols consist of.? consist of nine sets of three microtubules
where do centrioles occur? occur in animal cells only
What are the stages of mitosis? (interphase), prophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase
What happens during interphase? may appears to be a “resting” stage, but cell growth, replication of the chromosomes, and many other activities are taking place during this time.
What happens during prophase? the chromosomes start to coil, shorten, and become distinct
what is metaphese characterized as? characterized by the lining up of the chromosomes along the equator of the cell or what is called the metaphase plate.
what happens during anaphase? sister chromatids separate at the centromeres, thus can now be called chromosomes. These are pulled to the poles of the cell by the mitotic spindle
what happens during telophase? new daughter nuclei and nuclear envelopes start to reform and the chromosomes uncoil
what are the products of mitosis? daughter cells that are genetically identical to parent cell with same set of chromosomes.
How many cells does mitosis produce? 2
Are daughter cells haploid or diploid? diploid
What kind of cells does mitosis produce? body cells.
What kind of reproduction does mitosis use? asexual reproduction.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
