Chapter 11 Forces
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| friction | forces that opposes the motion of 1 object past another |
| force | any push or pull from 1 object to another |
| efficiency | is the ratio of input to output energy usually written as a percentage |
| work | measurment of the energy used to perform a task--this can change the amount of energy it has |
| position | the location of an object |
| law of conservation of energy | idea that energy can't be destroyed or created--it can only change form |
| fulcrum | a pivot point for a lever |
| velocity | measurment that combines the speed and direction of a moving object |
| momentum | product of mass divided by _____-- more it has the easier to move other objects |
| speed | is how fast an objects position changes over time |
| How does the force of gravity between 2 objects affect its mass and distance? | Gravity increases with mass and decreases with distance |
| What dies friction produce as 2 or more objects come into contact? | HEAT |
| What's Newton's 2nd law of motion? | It states that force is equal to mass x acceleration F=mxa 120(newtons)=12x10 |
| Newton's 3rd law of motion | Acceleration, for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction ex:bumping into each other |
| What is potential energy? | energy that is stored like a plate on a lower shelf v.s. a plate on a higher shelf |
| What is Kinetic Energy? | energy of a moving object |
| What are balanced forces? | these forces act on an object without changing its motion |
| What are unbalanced forces? | these are forces that cause an object to change its motion |
| How is force measured? | in Newtons (n) or poulds (lb) |
| What is an elevator, a compound and complex machine or a simple machine? | compound and complex |
| Is a human a simple machine or a complex and compound machine? | a simple machine |
| an example of momentum is... | 2 people standing on opposite sides of an object, and pushing foward at the same time |
