| Range of tolerance | the ability of a plant or animal to survive the environment |
| Habitat | palce where an organism lives out its life. |
| Niche | role or position a species has in its environment; incluedes all biotic and abiotic interactions as an animal meets its needs for survival |
| Permafrost | layer of permanently fornzen ground that lies underneath the topsoil of the tundra |
| Photic zone | portion of the marine biome that is shallow enough for sunlight to penetrate |
| Aphotic zone | nonliving paprts of an organism's environment; air currents, temperature, moisture, light, soil are examples |
| 3 parts of bioshpere | Atomosphere, lithosphere, hydrosphere. |
| Estuary | coastal body of water, partially surrounded by land, in which freshwater and salt water mix. |
| Primary successsion | takes place on land where no other organisms have ever lived |
| Secondary succession | takes place after an excisting communities is severly disrupted in some way. |
| 3 biotic factors | air, food, shelter, reproductions or protection |
| 3 abiotic factors | currents, temperature, moisture, light and soil |
