An introduction to Evolution

QuestionAnswer
theory of natural selection the environment or nature selects the individual with the most adaptive trait. they survive and pass these traits to to their offspring.
evidence of evolution 1. fossil record 2. Biogeography 3. comparative anatomy 4. comparative embryology 5. molecular biology.
fossil record animals and plants may fossilize in a variety of ways. may be replicas, casts, or mineralized.
oldest fossils are prokaryotes.
links between extinct species and modern species have been found.
lineages of species modern whales do not have hind legs but still have hind leg bones
Biogeography is the study of distribution of living organisms.
comparative anatomy is the study of body structures in different organisms.
common ancestors modern species can have similarities in bone structure due to the evolution of ancestor
homologous structure features that may have different functions, but are similar in structure because they evolved from a common ancestor
Comparative embryology is the study of the development of different organisms.
molecular biology is the study of gene and gene expresssion.
natural selection in action most insect are killed by poison but those who dont evolve and reproduce. some with bacteria and antiobiotics. they become antiobiotic resistant.
