Plants

QuestionAnswer
What are Vascular Plants? Plants that have tubelike structures that help transport substances to other parts of the plant.
What are Nonvascular Plants? Plants that do not have tubelike structures.
What are Rhizoids? They are threadlike structures that anchor plants where they grow.
What are Pioneer Species? Organisms that are the first to grow in new or disturbed areas.
What are Stomata(stoma)? Small openings in the epidermis that allow substances in and out of a leaf.
What are Guard Cells? What allows the stomata to open and close.
What is Xylem? Tissue made up of hollow tubular cells that are stacked one on top of the other to form a structure called a vesel.
What is Phloem? A plant tissue also made up of tubular cells that are stacked ato form structures called tubes.
What is Cambium? A tissue that produces most of the new xylem and phloem cells.
What are Gymnosperms? They are vascular plants that produce seeds that are not protected by fruit.
What are Angiosperms? They are vascular plants that flowers and produces fruits with one or more seeds.
What are Monocots? They have one cotyledon inside their seeds.
What are Dicots? They have two cotyledons inside their seeds.
