Respiration An exchange of gases between an organism & the environment in which it lives.
Smoking is the most important factor contributing to respiratory disease in all ages. Increases heartbeat, reduces oxygen in blood vessels, Narrows blood vessels
Influenza is a contagious disease caused by virus.
Pneumonia an acute inflammation or infection of the lung.
Emphysema A disease that begins with destruction of the air sacs in the lungs where oxygen from the air is exchanged for carbon dioxide.
Asthma is a disease of the bronchi, characterized by difficulty breathing, wheezing and a sense of tightness in the chest due to muscle spasm.
COPD Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease Emphysema, asthma & chronic bronchitis
Postural Drainage 2-3 times day. 20-30 min each time. On empty stomach.
Define: Postural Drainage Is a form of physical therapy that is often carried out by nursing personnel.
Lethal Changes Happen in 4-6min
Arteries Blood vessels that carry blood from the heart.
Veins The blood vessels that carry blood back to the heart, lungs and kidneys.
Hypertension High blood pressure
Arteriosclerosis Thickening and loss of elasticity in the arteries.
Atherosclerosis Clogging of the arteries with plaque & deposits of calcium or fat.
Myocardial Infarction= MI= Heart attack
Signs of Heart Attack Chest Pain. Confused with indigestion. Pain through left chest, left arm & neck. Jaw Pain.Irregular, weak, thready Pulse. Ligh headedness, Nausea. Difficulty breathing. Pale cool, clammy skin, decreased blood pressure.Intense Perspiration.Feelings of doom
Angina pectoris Acute chest pain caused by decreased blood supply in the heart.
Peripheral Vascular disease Poor circulation in the extremities
Stasis Ulcers Open wounds sore on the legs caused by stoppage of blood flow.
Varicose Veins Swollen veins especially prominent in the leg caused by lack of exercise, prolonged standing.
Antiembolism stockings Elevate legs 10-15 min before applying. Remove at least 1 time a day.
