use of confrontation test have client stand 2-3 ft from u, facing you, both cover one eye, extend pen to farthest periphery and gradually bring it to midline, have client report when first seen, should see it at the same time
cardinal fields CN III (oculomotor N), CN IV (trochlear N), CN VI (abducens N)
test have client look at you, position finger 10-12 in from clients nose, keep their head still and use only eyes to follow, move hand to upper extreme to center, lower inner extreme, move to temporal nasal extreme, hold, move to opp upper outer extreme
norm result of cardinal field test parallel tracking of object with both eyes, mild nystagmus at extreme lateral gaze normal
