Erosion the wearing away of the land by the process of water, wind, or ice
Transportation the process whereby the river moves its load
Deposition the process whereby the river drops material when it lacks energy to transport it's load
Attrition when boulders bash together and break into smaller pieces
hydraulic action the force of the water dislodges particles from the river's beds and banks
corrasion material in suspension wears away the banks in a sand papering action (aka abrasion)
corrosion the acids in the river dissolve the rocks in the bed and the banks of the river
traction rolling stones (needs lots of energy)
saltation bouncing or leap-frogging motion of sand sized material
suspension silt and clay sized material carried within the water flow
solution material which has been dissolved in the water and carried within the waterflow
discharge measured in cumecs
evapotranspiration the combination of water from plants and bodies of water returning to the atmosphere
infiltration water passing from the surface to the soil
interception vegetation
surface-runoff water flowing to the river overland
precipitation input into the drainage basin system
percolation slow movement of water down through the soil to the rocks
stem flow water transfer running down plants
