Matrix is composed of fibers, fluid, organic ground substance and/or inorganic components
Protein Fibers collagen (long thick bundles are tough, flexible and resist stretching), elastin (thin branching fibers can stretch and recoil as they yield to shape changes to organs) and reticular (thin fibers made of collagen and are coated with glycoprotein)
Specialized cells Fixed (fibroblasts) Wandering (leukocytes)
Loose Tissue widespread, possesses all fiber types and cell types, loosely organized, highly flexible Functions
Adipose Tissue constitute bulk of body fat, spherical/polygonal shaped, cell cytoplasm contains a fat vacuole filled with lipids Function
Blood consists of a fluid matrix (plasma) that contains many cell types with varying functions. Erythrocytes
Cartilage adapted for weight bearing (DON’T HAVE RICH BLOOD SUPPLY) get nutrients via diffusion. Lacunae
Bone adapted for weight bearing, protection, and a storage capacity. Haversian system
Compact bone solid, dense outermost layer
