Organelle review

QuestionAnswer
What is the liquid substance withing a cell called, and what is used as the "roadways" through it? Cytoplasm, and Cyto Skeleton
What are the two different types of Ribosomes, where are they found, and what do they produce? Bound- found connected to E.R., and nuclear envelope, and make protiens to be used by other organelles, or outside cell Free- found in cytosol, make protiens needed for cytossol reactions
What is the difference between the smooth and rough Endoplasmic Reticulum? Smooth E.R.- Involved in synthesis of hormones, carbs and detox. Rough E.R.- involved in synthesis of protiens/glycoprotiens, and membrane self growth.
What is the main process of the Golgi? The Golgi recieves products from the E.R. and MODIFIES them for release from the cell, then pinches the products off in vesicles for transport.
Which organells is responsible for recycling cell parts? Lysosomes.
Which organelle releases H2O2 as a biproduct? Peroxisomes.
Which organelle found in both plant and animal cells is MUCH larger in plant cells, and why? Vacuoles, because plants must store large amounts of water, within their cells.
Which two organelles convert usable energy, and for which types of cells? Chloroplasts- photosynthesising cells Mitochondria-nonphotosynthesing cells
cycle that takes place within the mitochondria? Krebs Cycle
What are the folds of th emitochondrial membrane called, and why do cells have them? Cristae, folds make more surface area, for ATP synthesis
Chloroplasts turn sunlight energy into usable energy, what are the 3 parts of a chloraplast? 1) thylakoids- flattened membrane sac inside chloroplast used to convert solar energy to stored chemical 2) granum- the stacked part of thylakoid, where light reactions occur 3) stroma- fluid in chloroplast where sugars are made from CO2 and H2O
what is the main function of microtubules? cell movement(both inside and out, and mantainance of cell shape.
what cells are you most likely to find alot of microfilaments? Muscle cells(for movement)
What 2 organelles do plants have that animal cells don't? Cell wall, and chloroplasts.
what are plasmodesmata? open channels in cell walls connecting the cytosols of different, adjacent cells

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
