As h2o cools, what 2 things happen? Contract, then density increases
As h2o warms, what 2 things happen? Expand, then density decreases
What happens to the water during the day? The surface water heats up and becomes less dense
What happens to the water during the night? The water cools and becomes more dense
What is density affected by, and why? Salt and other materials dissolved in the water becuase they increase mass of the water.
Continental Shelf The sloping shelf of land, consisting of the edges of the continents under the ocean.
Continental Edge The point at which the continental shelf, which surrounds each continent, begins to angel sharply downwards
Continental rise The lower portion of the continental slope, extending to the ocean floor
Abyssal Plain The broad, flat ocean bottom
Mid-Ocean Ridge A chain of mountains under the ocean
Seamounts An under water mountain that formed from a volcano
Volcanic Island An island made of a volcano
Shore Line The beach
Rift Valley Underwater valley
Trench Steep walled canyons at the bottom of the ocean
Guyot Flat topped seamounts
Mauna kea Tallest mountain in the world
Mountains, Rivers, and Oceans are natural ________ Features
