What are cells? basic unit of structure and function of living things
What is structure? what an organism is made of and how it is put together
What is Function? process that enable an organism to stay alive and reproduce
What is Cell Theory? all living things are made of cells Cells are the basic unit of structure and function in living things All things are produced from other cells
What is a Compound Microscope? two lens, one lens magnifies the other lens the other lens’ magnification
What is Resolution? sharpness of an image
What is an Electron Microscope? uses a beam of electrons instead of light to produce a magnified image
What are Organelles? tiny cell structures that carry out specific functions
What is Chromatin? strands of contain genetic materials that instruct the cell how to row
What is the Cell Membrane? controls what substances go in and out of the cell
What is the Nucleus? control center of the cell (hypothetically)
What is the Nuclear Envelope? membrane that protects the nucleus
What is the Nucleolus? where ribosomes are made/created
What is the Mitochondria? powerhouses, convert food molecules to energy the cell can use to carry out its functions
What are the Golgi Bodies? receive proteins and other materials and packages them and sends them to other parts of the cell
What is the Endoplasmic Reticulum? passageways that carry proteins and other materials from one part of the cell to another
What are Ribosomes? small grain like body that produces proteins
What is Chloroplast? (only in plant cells) captures energy from sunlight and uses it to produce food for plant cells
What are Vacuoles? large water filled sack, stores food and other materials
What are Lysosmes? “cleanup crew” round structure containing chemicals that break down materials
