Circulatory System Vocab Words

QuestionAnswer
Heart The organ that pumps the blood through the body.
Blood A tissue that is made up of cells, fluid, and other substances.
Blood Vessels Tubes that transport blood and nutrients to other parts of the body.
Hemiglobin The oxygen carrying pigment in the red blood cells of the blood.
Atrium A chamber of the heart that receives blood from the body.
Ventricle One of two large, muscular chambers that pump blood out of the heart.
Cardiac Pacemaker A group of cells at the top of the right atrium which starts a signal.
Arteries Blood vessels that carry blood away from the heart to all parts of the body.
Veins Blood vessels that carry blood from all parts of the body back to the heart.
Capillaries Tiny blood vessels that connect arteries to veins.
Red Blood Cells Full of hemoglobin and carry oxygen to the body. Also return carbon dioxide to the lungs.
White Blood Cells BLood cells that protect the body from disease.
Platelets Cell fragments that cause blood to clot, which stops blood loss.
Septum A wall, dividing a cavity or structure into smaller ones.
