Candida albicans yeast candidiasis – oral and vaginal; can be STD
Cryptococcus neoformans Yeast i. encapsulated yeast ii. causes cryptococcosis, can affect meninges iii. treatable with Amphotericin B (toxic)
Pneumocystis carinii Yeast i. opportunist ii. seen in AIDS patients iii. causes pneumonia
2. Molds (Dermatophytes) – skin, hair and nails a.Trichophyton sp. b.Microsporum sp. c.Epidermophyton sp.
Trichophyton sp. Mold : these cause tineas. The name depends on location. None is fatal, just unpleasant, itchy and maybe somewhat ugly. Tinea capitis (head), tinea pedis (Athlete’s foot), tinea cruris (Jock itch), tinea unguium (nails)

Histoplasma capsulatum Dimorphic Mold i. causes histoplasmosis ii. associated with bat droppings and caves iii. can be misdiagnosed for TB and even cancer iv. Speluncker’s disease
Blastomyces dermatitidis Dimorphic Mold i. Valley fever = blastomycosis ii. Spores are breathed in iii. agriculture, paleontologists, construction
Coccidioides immitis Dimorphic Mold i. coccidioidomycosis ii. breathed in from dirt, dust… iii. agriculture, paleontologists, construction
Sporothricum schenckii Dimorphic Mold i. Rose grower’s disease = sporothricosis ii. incapacitating iii. look like daisies under the scope
