mercury barometer a barometer that consisting of a glass tube partially filled with mercury - with its open en resting in a dish of mercury
aneroid barometer a barometer that measures air pressure without using a liquid
altitude Elevation above sea level
Because air has mass, it has other properties including density and pressure

As air pressure decreases as altitude increases - so does density
