Origin, Insertion, and Function

Zygomaticus major originates at zygomatic bone and inserts at angle of mouth
Orbicularis oculi originates at medial margin of orbit and inserts at skin around eyelids

Styloglossus originates at styloid process and inserts along the side to tip & base of tongue
Styloglossus retracts tongue, elevates sides
Digastric depresses mandible, opening mouth or elevates larynx
Geniohyoid depresses mandible and retracts hyoid bone
Mylohyoid elevates floor of mouth, elevates hyoid bone
Sternocleidomastoid flex neck; neck toward shoulder & turns head
Splenius extend neck; rotate & laterally flex neck
Longissimus capitis extend neck; rotate & laterally flex neck
Semispinalis capitis extends & laterally flexes neck; turns head to opposite side
Mulitfidus extends vertebral column and rotates toward opposite side
External oblique originates at external & inferior borders of ribs 5-12
External oblique compresses abdomen; depresses ribs
Rectus abdominis originates at superior surface of pubis, inserts @ inferior surfaces of cartilage (ribs 5-7) & xiphoid process of sternum
Rectus abdominis depressed ribs; flexes vertebral column
Pectoralis minor anterior, superior ribs and fascia to coracoid process of scapula
Pectoralis minor depresses and protracts shoulder; elevates ribs if scapula stationary
Rhomboid major ligamentum nuchae & spinous process T2-T5 to vertebral border scapula
Rhomboid major adducts & performs downward rotation of scapula
Coracobrachialis adduction & flexion at shoulder
Deltoid abduction of shoulder; flexion or extension & medial or lateral rotation of humerus
Supraspinatus abduction at shoulder
Subscapularis medial rotation at shoulder
Latissimus dorsi extension, adduction & medial rotation at shoulder
Biceps brachii coracoid process to radial tuberosity
Biceps brachii flexion at elbow & shoulder; supination
Brachioradialis flexion at elbow
Anconeus extension at elbow
Triceps brachii humerus & infraglenoid tubercle to olecranon of ulna
Triceps brachii extension at elbow; extension & adduction at shoulder
Pronator teres pronates forearm and hand & flexion at elbow
Tensor fascie latae iliac crest & iliac spine to iliotibial tract
Tensor fascie latae abduction at hip; extension and lateral rotation at knee
Pectineus flexion and adduction at hip
Gracilis flexion & medial rotation at knee; adduction and medial rotation at hip

Biceps femoris ischial tuberosity & linea aspera to head of fibula and later condyle tibia
